When my daughter began piano lessons at the age of six, by seven she had gone through two teachers already. My sons, both of whom also take music lessons (not piano), have been through at least six different teachers. When we found Karen, we knew we had to look no further. She embodies everything a parent wants a teacher to be: knowledgeable, patient, confident, encouraging, firm, supportive, motivating, dedicated, and perhaps most important, able to teach each student as an individual. I am confident that my daughter will finish her high school years under Karen’s tutelage and will likely go on to pursue music with the best foundation any teacher could possibly have provided.

Karen is a great example of hard work and dedication to excellence, not only in teaching, but also in her craft as a pianist, choral director, and conductor. We have had the pleasure to see Karen perform in each of these roles and I assure you we are consistently overwhelmed.

Personally, for my daughter, Karen has gone above and beyond the role of teacher. She has truly been a great resource of advice and guidance, even in my daughter’s pursuits outside the realm of her lessons with Karen. Karen encourages character development and life lessons for all of her students, both within the teaching of her lessons, as well as in outside pursuits, such as free piano concerts for the elderly and infirm.

Ms. Karen Mulhall has been providing piano lessons to our two small children for over two years. Since the day we first spoke to her over the telephone, it was obvious that Karen was a conscientious professional.

After meeting her for the first time, it became apparent that Karen was truly an accomplished musician that had a unique knack for inspiring children. Karen masterfully balances the sometimes tedious and less than glamorous aspects of learning to play a musical instrument with interesting trivia, humor and good old-fashioned fun.

Karen is clearly an extremely caring individual that is as concerned as much about her student’s overall well-being as she is in their piano playing progress. The noticeable affection between Karen and her students (especially her older students, many of whom she has been teaching for over a decade) is nothing short of magical and awe-inspiring.

  Over the last few years, our entire family has grown extremely fond of Karen. She has, and continues to instill a sense of passion in our children—not only a passion for music, but a passion for life. Our family looks forward to continuing and growing both our musical and personal relationships with Karen.

My daughter studied piano for about 3 years before beginning lessons with Karen Mulhall. She seemed to really take off right away under Karen’s instruction. At recital time when we looked back at what she had played for her first recital with Karen, we could not believe the growth! In addition to making such substantial progress, Rachel has thoroughly enjoyed playing. Karen challenges her students, and they all seem to rise to the occasion.

My son Michael is thirteen years old and has been a student of Karen Mulhall’s for almost three years. During this time, he has made tremendous advancements not only in his playing, but lasso in his knowledge of reading and interpreting music.

Karen gives her students many opportunities to get to know one another by holding several group lessons throughout the year. During these lessons, students can share their love for music with one another as well as build lasting friendships. They also have opportunities to play in front of an audience performing in concerts and recitals throughout the year.

With Karen’s excellent teaching techniques, a student will learn to play to their full potential while gaining self-confidence and having fun. Michael enjoys playing the piano now more than ever and looks forward to each lesson.

Karen has been my daughter’s piano teacher (and advocate) for ten years, since she was eight years old. Karen has seen her through good lessons and bad lessons—from “I love piano” to “I hate piano” and back again, with patience and perseverance. Karen knows how to be firm and when to be easy—and always caring—about the learning and the person she is teaching. She has become an important model for my daughter—who has entered her first year of college as a music education major.

In getting to know Karen over these years, I have come to know how committed she is to the students that she works with—her private students and her college students. She takes great pride in what she does and gives her students wonderful opportunities to feel proud and accomplished about what they do with her—even if they may never go on to be great musical stars.

We have had the pleasure of knowing Karen Mulhall for the past twenty years. She was the piano teacher for our two sons over an eight-year period of time. At first she started to instruct our older son, but my younger son was anxious to be her student as well. She was such a patient and kind teacher that both of the boys enjoyed their years of instruction with her.

  Both of us are educators, so we were keenly aware of Karen’s exemplary methods of instruction. She was always organized, set reasonable guidelines, and kept our son’s interest throughout their years of lessons. Karen possesses a unique ability to challenge her students creatively and artistically. She is immensely talented, highly motivated and professional in every aspect of her work.

I have taken piano lessons with Karen for over seven years. Through my studies with Karen, I was able to achieve a level I never thought possible. Karen has not only trained me in the areas of piano technique but she also engaged me in studies of music theory and music history. She gives her students many opportunities to become comfortable performing for audiences. She lets students interact with one another so that we can learn from our peers. Karen has not only trained me to play well, but she has also taught me to play with compassion and understanding. Karen is a wonderful teacher. She is always very patient and understanding. Karen realizes that as students, we have obligations to school and activities other than the piano, so she makes her lessons as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. She is also very professional and does not discuss or compare students with one another.
